Love spoons predate the diamond engagement ring where a young man would hand carve a spoon with delicate designs to show his workmanship skills. In those days many people lived in rural regions and were farmers. Good carving skills would show that the young man was good working with tools and wood indicating that he would be good working on the farm. The young man would present the love spoon to his bride-to-be ( hopefully ) to impress her. The heart shape of the spoon would symbolize that he would always keep her belly full and to love her and the future children. She would then take it to her father that would agree to the workmanship and OK the marriage. The couple would hang the love spoon on the wall as a reminder of their oath to each other. Great for a gift for anniversaries, weddings, valentines, and wall decor.
